Louis Vuitton’s Radical Style Change for SS 2012
One of the defining characteristics of each young fashion brand is an aesthetic concept which guides the designer while creating collections. Each of the seasonal collections may vary, but the common aesthetics of the fashion house allows to predict with a certain degree of accuracy what the designer will present to the public in the new season. Yet more interesting is to observe the work of Marc Jacobs, the creative director of Louis Vuitton. Each collection of the designer becomes a signal for a radical change to the image. What comes to the mind is the “Asian” spring-summer 2011 collection, the fetish-chic of the autumn-winter 2011-2012 collection, and, finally, surprisingly feminine and flirty innocent images of the spring-summer 2012 collection, presented closer to the end of the Fashion Week in Paris.

Chanel SS 2012 Collection
Instead of the dark and “volcanic” atmosphere of the fall-winter 2011-2012 showing, the SS 2012 collection is characterized by the ease and naturalness of the underwater world: shells, corals and rocks polished by the tide served as the natural scenery for the spring-summer 2012 collection.
For Karl Lagerfeld, lightness is a key element of spring-summer collection: the new fabrics (which even the designer himself was unable to describe) have complemented the collection with pearl shining. The strings of pearls instead of the traditional waistbands and the brightest hues are used to advantage.

Lanvin SS 2012 Collection
Spring-Summer 2012 collection, presented by Lanvin at the Fashion Week in Paris, was another example of this phenomenon in Elbaz’s creative activity. The collection of the famous designer had been inspired by the images of the angels, fallen into hell, but in the process of creating the collection, the angels turned into quite real contemporary women.
It is this kind of a “return” that explains quite a modern silhouette at the basis of Lanvin Spring-Summer 2012 collection, an original and raised shoulder line, rigorous and clear lines of the items opening the show. However, the new collection presented by Lanvin is full of contrasts: strict suits and dresses with raised “sharp” shoulders coexist with exquisite ensembles in Lanvin’s traditional style. They are incredibly feminine, with their delicate silk which smoothly outlines the contours of the female figure.
